Twisters – In the Heart of the Storm: I Chase for You

In a world of many endeavors, going to a summer blockbuster is a prime event.  With every movie fan, these kinds of films can be an enjoyable grip of a visualized escape.  No matter the genre or clichés, it will at least be fun.  In this review, I look at the latest action/thriller of a famed IP.  Within the utter display of nature’s wrath, Twisters is a visualized blockbuster of characterized survival.

In a tale of destruction, two separate tornado-chasers will have to find renewed purpose and find out if they can save lives against mother nature.  Going into this film, there is a dueling sense of nostalgia and spectacle appeal.  From fans of the original to action lovers, the filmmakers build an experience that subtly harkens to the IP while paving the way for new characterized adventures.  The journey begins in a prologue of utter calamity, providing a residual effect of humanization for Kate (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and Javi (Anthony Ramos).  From here, the journey moves into the present, finding Kate working in NYC, far from the reaches of Tornado Alley.  After a series of conversational moments, Javi convinces Kate to come back to Oklahoma and help with gathering data on tornadoes.  This pushes through a linear directive that sets forward a dueling competition with Tyler Owens (Glen Powell) and his crew as they chase down destructive tornadoes for specific reasons.  From this point, the film falls into the typical ‘blockbuster’ like notions, placing characters within the path of action pack sequences, folly like banter and reflective aftermath.  As the journey builds through these moments, it provides an experience that pushes situational intensity that slowly reveals the truth to Kate about Javi’s and Tyler’s crews.  As the audience witness each moment through Kate, it becomes a humanized experience that revels within the consequences of mother nature.  She begins to put the pieces together about each crew, leading to heightened themes of hope, pain and greed.  Even within all the action, comedy and character clichés, it is the thematic approach that provides a wholesome appeal to the blockbuster mantra.

Beyond the spectacle, the action is melded together within the characterized friendship of Kate and Javi, and the romantic allure between Kate and Tyler.  Through the action, it is this grounded layer that accentuates the human appeal of each destructive tornado.  You see the reasoning of each person’s quest in ‘understanding’ mother nature, weaving in perspectives in the eyes of science.  With each character finding renewed purpose, this leads into a third act that builds up the bombastic action within humanized moments.  This leads to a full circle climax and a wonderous epilogue.  Twisters is a blockbuster that provides gripping action within the onus of characterized appeal.  If you are a fan of this property, blockbusters, or visualized escapes, this is for you.  If you want to feel the intensity of the storm, definitely check this out on the big screen.
