Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire – In a Fight of Logic and Mayhem: Titans UNITE!!!
Within a world of extravagance, it is the simple pleasures that may feel the best. These modest touches provide a one-of-a-kind enjoyment, a heartiness in embracing nature as it is. With film, storytellers hope that their crafted journey strikes the right accord of delight. No matter the genre, sometimes we just want the fun of escape. In this review, I look at the latest entry in the Godzilla/Kong franchise. For all the issues that abound, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is a fun clash of monsters and mayhem.
When two ancient titans sense a new threat on the horizon, they must find a way to work together to save the world once more. With film, there is a degree of levity when it comes to the journey ahead. The foundation propels through acceptable occurrences, dancing along lines of realistic notion and suspension of disbelief. For all the antics that may be, the value of recognition of the audience can have an impact on the experience. With this latest entry in the monster franchise, the filmmakers are aware of what is expected … and delivers for the sake of the action. In the beginning, we are thrust back into this world through our titular characters (Godzilla and Kong). Through a mixture of over-the-top action, world-building and predictable plot progression, we learn that Monarch has continued to investigate hollow earth and its unknown regions. Within its linear directive, we watch as the journey weaves human interactions (and exposition) within the visualization of Kong and Godzilla’s worlds. For all the cheesy one-liners and typical human characters, it is the titan’s story that brings brevity to the situation. As Kong and Godzilla discover unhidden truths, they learn of an ancient threat hidden in hollow earth. With a new enemy to defeat, the predictability of the experience lifts into a realm where expectations become a platform of epic proportions.
When the new threat (Scar King) makes his presence known, the derivative details are pushed to the wayside for over-the-top action and ludicrous monster mayhem. Within the crossroads of typical ‘downturn’ from enjoyment, the filmmakers take the generic aspect of storytelling as props for the enjoyment of fantasy. When you witness Godzilla and Kong face off against Scar King, it becomes a lens of logical confusion and convenient circumstance within an adrenaline filled conflict. With the world left to the protection of the titans, we head into a third act that continues down that CGI slugfest of epic foolery, leaving you with an ironic feeling of pure fulfillment from the action. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, for all its mishaps, knows what it is and delivers on expectations. If you are a fan of monster films or this franchise, you will have a great time with this one. For everyone else, if you can turn off your brain, I say it is worth the big screen at the right price.
