Spiderman: Far From Home – Web-slinging on a Summer Vacation
Icon; a word that comes to mind when you think about this character. Known throughout the world, Spiderman has been the face of many childhood memories. With this next adventure within the MCU, we watch as he heads off to Europe. With strong performances and endearing characterization, Spiderman: Far From Home reflects upon why this is a popular comic book character. This is another great chapter for of our favorite web-slinger.
Taking place after the events of Avengers: Endgame, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) embarks on a class trip to Europe. Faced with new challenges, he must find a way to balance his life as a teenager and becoming that true hero. Being a part of the MCU, this film has the challenge of layering the overarching story while staying true to the character. To balance this, the director (Jon Watts) creates a first half that is solely focused on intrinsic dialogue and character development within a Teenage Rom-Com narrative. This allows for a compliment of Spiderman and his avenging world (comic book genre) with Peter Parker’s life as an adolescent (realistic lens). This takes the clichés and merge them within the personal conflicts, creating unpredictable moments with his classmates (MJ, Ned, Flash, etc.), Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) and Quentin Beck/Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal). The poignant details allow you to live within this world, becoming engross with the ominous details that surround the threat of the Elementals.
As the story progresses, the comical hijinks and witty dialogue provides a pathway into the twists and bombastic action. You can feel the tension as Spiderman begins to learn about the real threat. Facing consequences of the past, it layers a relative trait of endearment that connects this to the overall MCU. This brings full circle the purpose of the direction, leading to a climax that is impactful on the future of Spiderman. Spiderman: Far From Home is another wonderful chapter of Peter Parker and his growth as Spiderman. By layering the impact of the bigger world on a grounded level, it creates a journey that is genuine to what makes Spiderman renowned to the world. This is fun for the whole family, worth the full price of admission at the theaters.
